I slept in the bed alone last night. I thought it was going to be glorious. I’d put my iPad on the bed with a show playing on it like I used to, I’d sleep on the lefthand side like I use to, and the girls would join me like they used to. It started off well but I couldn’t get comfortable until I put the iPad on the floor like I’ve been doing lately, cozied up to the righthand side of the bed, and Eloise made her way to the foot of the bed while Genevieve tucked herself in on Ouli’s cat bed.

Hannah slept on the couch last night because she wanted to monitor Ouli’s urinating. She put me and the girls in the bedroom together and took the rest of the apartment for her and Ouli so that she could listen for him peeing. Apparently, he was in and out of the litter box a fair bit and only pissed in small amounts.

The cats are starting to get along. We got a Feliway Friends pheromone diffuser. I can’t be sure that that’s what’s made the difference but they don’t seem to be getting at each other as much. Eloise and Ouli are playing together. Genevieve is more of an introvert. When the girls on one side of the bedroom door and Ouli is on the other, I think they’re trying to save one another. The girls know that I’ll eventually give in.

I don’t miss it being just me and the girls. Our relationship has changed, of course, but I think we’re better for it. I enjoy watching all three cats interact, seeing how they provoke, protect, and play with each other. Their personalities are so different.

It’s funny how we can forget about the pleasures of the past when the present is going well and the future looks even better. Truthfully, I’m more amazed that I didn’t take advantage of the chance to use the whole bed. Hannah wouldn’t even have known.
