Soon after getting my first car, I would drive to a neighbouring town to smoke cigarettes. It became a regular habit of mine. It was easier for me to stay awake later back then.
One night, on my way to finish off my night before heading home, “Wonderwall” by Oasis came on. It was going to at some point because I was playing a CD. On this night, an irregular mist was hanging thick and low. The headlights created clouds in front of me at 100 km/h.
This was the one and only time in my life when “Wonderwall” made sense to me. I played the song again on my way back but I couldn’t retrieve the same connection and understanding I had only 20 minutes earlier on the other side of the highway.
I know all of the words and can sing along with the tune. I’ve probably heard the song a thousand times since but I’d be damned if I had to explain what it means. Travis agrees with me.
