I went to see the Sam Roberts band tonight with a couple of friends. It’s been a while since I’ve been to a concert or listened to Sam Roberts.
It was funny to see how many people pulled out their phones when a song from 20 years ago came on. I resisted the urge for most of the show.
Soon after getting my first car, I would drive to a neighbouring town to smoke cigarettes. It became a regular habit of mine. It was easier for me to stay awake later back then.

I don’t know how to find the cable channels that I pay for. There should be 30 that I have access to among the 9999 in the guide. I’m not bothered, though.

I had the AirPods Pro for about two weeks before I returned them. I took them to the Apple Store because they weren’t charging properly. The suggested solution was for me to return them and then repurchase new ones when they’re back in stock, a month from now. I’m not sure if I will but they were nice to have for the two weeks.
Not having anything to get up for in the morning means that I stay up late. I did some laundry, which is now clean but still in the hamper. After the laundry, I did an assortment of things. Here’s a picture that sums up my evening. Bonus points if you know what song was playing when I took the photo.
There’s something about country music that makes the sunshine feel like summer. Sometimes I feel stuck in the city, often wishing I could just drive away into the prairies, chasing highway mirages.
Sitting on the beach in Mexico feels like it was too long ago. Hopefully I’ll get some good park-sits in this summer.
P.S. SonicRetreat is no more, so I’m going to try to pick up some of the slack. The music selection will be decidedly different.
I’m that jerk that pulls up next to you at a stop light, music blaring out of every open window, including the sunroof. I’ve got a loud enough muffler on my car, as well. Used to be, there’d be a puff of cigarette smoke pouring out of the driver’s window, too. Terrible lane-neighbour, I know. (more…)
My buddy who runs the blog SonicRetreat has been talking about discontinuing it; his URL is coming up for renewal or something silly like that. He keeps up on a lot of music, and his posts are very current. The exposure to new music and artists is a good thing for you, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Anyway, in an effort to encourage him to continue blogging about the music that he loves, and to discourage him from talking about pharmaceuticals when we’re drinking together, I’m asking you to show your support (for me, more than him) by visiting his blog.

I don’t often promote musicians, but what the hell? I haven’t had much to write about lately, and this guy’s pretty good.
I first heard of Sam Smith when I discovered “Latch” by Disclosure. I recently learned that he has a new album coming out, and the four tracks that iTunes let me download are quite good. I’m certainly looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.
To me, it’s clear that he’s a new artist. He has a strong voice and his lyrics are uncomplicated. This isn’t a bad thing because the stories told are relatable. It’ll be nice to follow along as he grows as an artist.
(There’s good reason why I never became a music reviewer.)
Also, I recently discover SoundCloud. You’re probably already well aware of it, but it’s new to me. It’s kinda neat. Here’s Sam Smith’s SoundCloud playlist/stream:

So, here, for you, is a new blog to follow: SonicRetreat. It’s about music — something I rarely write about. It’s only four posts deep, at the time of this writing, but I get the sense that the style of music that you’ll find on here is unique to buddy’s taste. He’s got decent taste, so don’t worry.
As yet, he hasn’t posted any reviews, as such. You’ll just find a quick blurb and a song. It’s a nice idea, and I’m excited to see where it goes. I think it’s strength lies in the fact that buddy just loves the music that he loves.
