Some days are slower than others. Today, we took a pedal boat around the lagoon at Bowness Park. We were never moving too fast. For an hour, without any gusto, we pedalled.

We talked about how we’re both ready to go back to our regular routines, how being away from it all has been wonderful but there’s a certain comfort in doing what you normally do. When we get back, we kept saying, we have a lot to do. Soon enough, we’ll be back in school, wondering what happened to our summer.

Time has a way of passing quickly when it’s yours to be spent. Since the beginning of the summer, we’ve been working toward the things that we want. Our cats met, got SANA into a market, drove out to PEI, flew here to Calgary, and have a few things left to do over the next two weeks. All summer, things have been moving forward, a nice change of pace from the stagnancy felt in the spring. Summer is going to end too soon.

Nothing has felt too fast but it’s ending too quickly. This is our last night in Calgary, the last night of our travels for the summer. Pleasantly fatigued, we will board a plane tomorrow and head back into our regular lives. The pace will change, we’ll have grown, and things will continue on. Some day soon, we’ll be remembering how we pedalled gently over calm water, wishing we were again.
