Just Wanting to Write Something

I’ve been mulling over ideas for something to write about, but tonight I just kind of want to write. I don’t have any particularly gripping topic arresting my attention.

So here is a smattering of stuff about my day.

My work day:

I taught French rotation in the morning at one school, and a grade 5/6 class in the afternoon at a different school. I had 45 minutes to make a 26-minute journey at lunch. I picked up the afternoon job as I was walking out of the house just before 7:40 am, so I didn’t have a lunch made.

Dinner:

I tried making my own pasta sauce tonight. It wasn’t good, but I ate it.

Nap:

No nap this evening. Fuck, I can waste time.

Entertainment:

I started watching a TV documentary on how people live in remote climates and conditions. It’s on Netflix, and I can’t remember the name right now. I think the word “Human” is in the title.

Plants:

I thought my plants weren’t growing, but I caught Riel eating them. Every time I tried to snap a photo, he stopped.

Phone:

I have to wait by my phone for the “system” to call me with job offers. I can go online to look for available assignments, but every time I find a job online, it’s taken by the time I get around to accepting it. It’s not as complicated as it may seem, but I can’t figure it out. See, the system calls out between 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm, and then again between 6:00 am and 10:00 am. I’ve lost work because I was riding the elevator. I should probably check for available work after I post this. Maybe I’ll leave it to chance.

Summer job:

I had an interview for a job last week. I was expecting to hear back about it by now. I missed a call from an unknown number the other day. Thrice. I called back and left a message. I haven’t heard back.

Blog:

I rummaged through some papers that I have with initial drafts of blog posts. Little was to be found that was worth writing about, so you’re getting this instead.

Use of the word “I”:

I write in the first person a lot. I’m getting tired of using “I” all of the time. I think it’s making my writing a bit stale and boring. I wonder if my writing would come across as more authoritative if I didn’t use “I” so much. Maybe I’ll try writing a blog post with no “I”s in it.

A new academic journal:

Two former professors of mine have started a new journal, which I think sounds pretty interesting. It’s called The International Journal of Holistic Early Learning and DevelopmentI emailed one of the professors to find out more about it, and she asked if I had anything to submit. I might write something for it. You should too, if it’s of interest to you.

My knee:

I buggered up my knee this past weekend, and somehow managed to gain a sore on my left shoulder. I don’t like it when this happens because I don’t have my full range of motion. I really need to get my knee fixed. I should probably start going to the gym. I feel old and rickety.

Reading and writing:

I was doing so well for a while there. I was really enjoying reading and writing and was getting a fair amount of both in. I don’t know what happened, but I’ve got to get back to it.

A video of Riel playing with his toy:

How was your day?
