Yesterday was Holocaust Education Day, which our school board recognizes. I do not understand the nature of all the conflicts currently taking place in the world. Indeed, I know very little about any of them. Even still, it’s hard for me to understand how we can educate our students on the history of a tragic event from the past when we are standing witness to many today.

It’s as if we’ve learned nothing, unable to reflect and rationalize. We are dumb in the discussion of the dialectic.

How do such atrocities remain possible, when there are days, weeks, and months dedicated to education on the circumstances and histories that stain our collective past? It’s as if we are condemned to repeat our past, despite our memories.
