Prompt # 2 from 301 Writing Ideas: Describe the day you graduated high school.
I don’t know. I really can’t remember.
I remember walking across the stage at our graduation ceremony. My girlfriend at the time thought that I would be all twitchy walking across the stage because I was pretty twitchy. I walked confidently. She, on the other hand, took a few dance steps on the way to shake hands and receive her diploma.
I also remember a picture of me in the parking lot of the Big Four Building, where our graduation reception was held. I had to change out of my suit and into jeans because the party was at a ranch. In the picture, I’m wearing grey silk boxers with hearts dotted all over them. I wanted silk boxers to wear to grad.
I’m sure that we had to go back after exams to return out textbooks. If I remember correctly, we paid a deposit at the beginning of the school year and got it back if we returned out textbooks in good condition.
There was one time when I was wearing an oversized faux fur coat for a film we were making for English class. I remember that. It was on the same day as the Pride Parade. That had nothing to do with graduation, though.
High school feels like it was a long time ago and I like that it sits there. A lot has happened since then. I’m glad for all of the experiences I had but I don’t care to relive them or think too much about them. Forgetting those memories is only possible because I’ve probably learned whatever lessons I needed to from that experience.
I prefer wearing boxer briefs now. They provide a comfortable level of freedom while remaining supportive.
