My mom is an incredible cook. Very slowly, I’ve been trying to learn some of her recipes. Tonight, I made chana batata (chickpeas and potatoes) for dinner.

In university, I remember once telling a friend that sharing a meal for someone is a testament to their value in your life. I probably said it with fewer syllables, yet more eloquence. While cutting up the cassava into fries, I set the oven to preheat. I thought I had turned it to 425º. After I had tossed the fries in olive oil, salt, and paprika, I needed to put them on a baking sheet. So, I reached into the oven to get the baking sheet.
Luckily, I had inadvertently set the oven at 375º.

I tried to make some homemade potato chips today. This is how they turned out:
I tried to make homemade potato chips today. I wasted two potatoes. Thinly sliced potatoes, dressed in olive oil, seasoned with black pepper and salt, will burn if you leave them in a 400°F oven for 30 minutes. These are inedible.
