It must’ve come as quite a surprise when I raised my hand at the meeting and asked, “What is it like to be white?” I’d been preparing myself to ask the question since the last meeting a month ago.
For the last few weeks, I’ve been updating a document I started to keep my thoughts and ideas on equity, diversity, and inclusion in. I wanted to make sure that I thought through what I wanted to say. And, I often get a bit fired up by these discussions and need an outlet. After today’s meeting, there are some updates to be made.
More than anything, I’m glad that I asked the question. I wanted to and I did it. That felt good.
