Blogging, Vlogging, and Podcasting | Episode 4- Narrowing My Focus to Podcasting

Last week, I said that this episode would be about advertising, because what’s the point in putting this content out there if I didn’t want people to see it? Late last week, I decided that I needed to narrow my focus when a pang of anxiety struck me as I was trying to figure out whether to post links to this project on my Twitter or Instagram. What I decided to do instead was narrow my focus.

I’m switching the focus of this series to podcasting. The reason I chose podcasting is because one of my goals for this year is to produce six episodes of one. I also think that this would be an interesting challenge for me because of my interest in writing. Most of the writing that I currently do, I intend for people to read, not hear. It’ll challenge my writing style, forcing me to adopt something more colloquial and casual.

So, what I did was go on the public library’s website and find the elearning section. From there, I found a course on podcasting put out through Lynda. The course was okay. It started strong but didn’t finish well. The description promised that I’d have an episode of my podcast by the end of it but that didn’t happen. Still, I learned a few things so it was worthwhile. Going forward, I’m going to follow the course laid out by a book.

After finishing the course, I purchased How To Start A Podcast: Launch A Podcast For Free With No Previous Experience. It came out just a couple of days ago. I’m thinking that I’ll use this book as my guide. I will follow its lead and see where it takes me. Along the way, I’ll provide updates.

Narrowing my focus, I think, is a good idea. Thinking back to Episode 1, I wasn’t slow-motion multitasking. It’s okay to have a lot of projects on the go but it’s not effective to work on all of them at the same time. Trying to put together a blog, vlog, and podcast each week was getting to be too much for me. I was confusing myself. I wasn’t able to maintain a clear focus.

The podcast will now serve as the hub for this project, with the vlog and blog branching out from it. I think that this will work well. Once I have the podcast up and running, I can then turn my focus to either the vlog or blog.

I think that this is something you should consider if you’re working on a project that you can’t seem to make progress with. Maybe you are trying to do too much at one time. Can you parse out the different parts and focus your efforts? Narrowing your focus will likely help you do a better job of whatever it is that you’re working on.

I’m hoping that next week, I’ll have more information about the podcast itself. I’m thinking that I’ll shoot the vlog as I go along, and then compile the footage for the vlog. The blog will cover the things that I did during the week.

Anyway, I hope that you’ve been enjoying following along. If you’re working on project of your own, I’d like to hear about it so that I can learn from you.

Please subscribe, if you haven’t already, so that you can get the latest blog, vlog, or podcast as soon as it drops.

Take care of yourselves and your loved ones during this crazy time.
